High school students from KUSD are taking the lead in planning this event, creating a unique opportunity for the community to hear directly from the candidates.

We are excited to announce that recruitment is underway for the 2024-25 Youth Voice Project cohort! This program empowers high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to build leadership skills and take an active role in shaping our community, including organizing the annual Youth-Led Town Hall Board Candidate Forum on March 13, 2025. We’re also pleased to welcome Destiny Garcia, a freshman at Carthage College, as our intern and co-facilitator for the project.

At BOF, we are dedicated to fostering the leaders of tomorrow through our Youth Voice Project. This initiative emphasizes leadership development and advocacy education, empowering high school students to champion their own educational experiences and advocate for their peers.
 
In the past school year, nine students from five local high schools organized a Town Hall Forum with school board candidates, engaging voters in a dialogue about key educational issues. They also initiated an advocacy project aimed at improving outcomes for all high school students. We are eager to build on their efforts and implement their plan during the 2024-2025 school year.
 
We are now recruiting KUSD high schoolers in grades 10-12 for the upcoming school year. Please share the registration link with your networks and encourage interested students to apply. Applications are open until early October, with the cohort meeting twice a month after school.
