From May to October 2024, Building Our Future’s Literacy Steering Committee conducted a countywide survey of caregivers to better understand local attitudes toward literacy, home practices, and opportunities to enhance early-grade reading on a community-wide scale. With input from 401 caregivers across Kenosha, we’re excited to share the results of this effort here!
The insights gathered provide a strong foundation for the committee to address caregivers’ and students’ needs as they begin and sustain their reading journeys. A heartfelt thank you to the eleven organizations that make up the Literacy Steering Committee for their dedication to reaching caregivers and making this survey possible: Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha, Carthage College, Kenosha Unified School District, Wisconsin Reading Corps, Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Community Library, Kenosha Public Library, Kenosha Achievement Center, Kenosha Literacy Council and United Way of Kenosha County Our partnership with the Kenosha Fire Department was showcased at the INSPIRE conference in October 2024. This is the power of cross-sector partnerships in action, and we’re proud to support efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive talent pipeline in Kenosha.
