Learning to read is one of the most important building blocks for a child’s success and the foundation for literacy starts long before a child enters the classroom.
Through our Early Grade Reading Work Team, we are bringing community partners together to strengthen literacy opportunities for children across Kenosha County. Our vision is simple: All students complete third grade reading at grade level. We’re working across sectors to build awareness, connect families and community partners with resources, and support a community where children have opportunities to develop strong reading skills from an early age. One way we’re helping make literacy resources easier to find is through our Reading Resource Hub, a collection of local programs, book access opportunities, and other resources for families and our community. Explore the Reading Resource Hub: buildingourfuturekc.org/readingresources This National Literacy Month, we encourage everyone to find a way to support young readers, whether that’s reading together, sharing a book, visiting the library, or helping connect a family with a local literacy resource. Every child can become a strong reader, and we all have a role to play. More than 85 Kenosha County families and employees have already shared their experiences through the Child Care Needs Survey, helping us better understand how child care access, affordability, and availability affect families and the local workforce.
We’re continuing to gather perspectives from families across Kenosha County, with a particular interest in hearing from people working in manufacturing, hospitality, and retail. What we learn will help inform conversations with employers, community leaders, and policymakers about the child care challenges facing working families and opportunities to strengthen our local child care system. Have you used, searched for, or needed child care in Kenosha County? Share your experience through the survey here: Child Care Survey Link $250,000 to keep building Wisconsin’s future!
We’re thrilled to share that the Wisconsin Partnership has been awarded $250,000 from StriveTogether to continue building stronger systems and creating better outcomes for children, youth and families across Wisconsin. This is a true team effort between Higher Expectations for Racine County, Building Our Future, Achieve Brown County, Milwaukee Succeeds and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Policy and Research Department. We’re proud of what we’re building together – and excited for what we’ll continue to build in the years to come! |
