Maggie brings a wealth of experience from her work in higher education at Carthage College and UW-Parkside, along with her time studying at Asbury University. With a Master’s in Organizational Leadership and a passion for empowering others, she’s excited to drive impactful systems change in our community. Originally from Pennsylvania, Maggie moved to Kenosha in 2020 with her husband Ben (born and raised in Pleasant Prairie) and is a proud Leadership Kenosha alum. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, running, reading, and tackling puzzles during the Wisconsin winters! We can't wait to see the amazing work she’ll accomplish! We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our summer FAFSA project. Thanks to grant funding, our Equitable Enrollment Collaborative (EEC) was able to launch a targeted initiative to assist students in KUSD and RUSD who had not yet completed their FAFSA applications. This grant enabled us to hire and train four college students to lead the effort.
Throughout the summer, we hosted six evening events—three in Kenosha and three in Racine—providing students with valuable assistance in navigating the FAFSA process. Our final event took place last night at The Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy (KELA) in Uptown. A special thank you to KELA and the Kenosha Southwest Library's Teen Center for their support and partnership in helping to remove barriers and advance economic mobility through education. Check us out at fastfafsa.org for more details. Last week, Building Our Future (BOF) engaged with leaders from Kenosha Unified School District’s African American Youth Initiative (AAYI) for a two-day strategic planning session. Focusing on continuous improvement, the team analyzed previous years' data to identify key factors affecting college and career readiness for African American students.
The session resulted in a strategic plan for the 2024-25 school year, aiming to boost enrollment in AP courses, dual-enrollment courses, and youth apprenticeship programs. The plan builds on AAYI's successful principles of character development and camaraderie. Additionally, with BOF’s support, the group will implement performance tracking measures to evaluate their impact throughout the year. |
